No Credit Cards For A Week

Yesterday morning I got a text message from my bank telling me that my credit card had been temporarily blocked.

I called up the bank who had told me that someone had tried to access my account and pin and therefore my cards will be cancelled and I’d receive new ones in 5-7 business days.

It’s frustrating as I use my credit for everything in order to earn more points. What was most frustrating was that because I didn’t know my 3 digit pin in order to do telephone banking I had to go through a number of questions to verify that it was actually me on the phone.

I have to say, I log into my bank account every single day so I’m pretty aware of my spending and details relating to my accounts. I’m constantly transferring money, paying bills and checking my balance. I was able to answer all the questions off the top of my head which was handy. These questions related to recent purchases, how many accounts I had, whether they were joint accounts and a number of other things. I can not stress enough how important it is to know these things. Even if you have to write them down somewhere. I also can’t stress how important it is to constantly check your account and contact your bank the second you realise something is wrong. I should have realised when I was grocery shopping the night before and used paypass but the automated machine made me sign for my purchase which I haven’t done in years.

Whilst it’s frustrating to be cardless for a week, I’m glad that I was contacted and made aware of what happened before any unauthorised purchases were made.

So moral of the story – be aware of your spending habits, contact your bank when something weird happens and hope to whatever you believe that if someone tries to access your account you get contacted immediately!

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what happened?
